This bundle contains a series of lessons, with accompanying lesson plans or activities, that can be delivered as stand alone short sessions or combined to create longer safety sessions.
Teachers can be confident that the safety messaging throughout these resources is consistent and accurate for children and young people across the City and County. NFRS staff have selected the resources within this bundle based on data and evidence and feel them suitable to reduce the risk of injury or harm to our communities.
The bundle has resources for children and young people from ages 3 through to 11. Each resource is clearly labelled with the appropriate age group. Each resource is linked to the national curriculum for England and used as evidence of compliance.
Resources and accompanying plans and notes will guide educators on effective delivery without specific sector knowledge allowing NFRS to be confident that our children and young people have the skills and knowledge to keep themselves safe from fire and other emergencies.
These are recommended lessons and activities but educators have the ability to utilise any resource on StayWise they feel appropriate for the group they are engaging.
Resources in the public pages can be accessed without an account and so may be used for family learning.
How To Use
The resources selected will allow consistent and accurate safety education messaging for all children and young people across both the city and county.
Resources identified in this bundle should be considered first when selecting activities to ensure NFRS identified safety messaging can be delivered. Educators do have the ability to access any resource on StayWise they feel will be suitable for their groups.
These resources cover fire, water and road safety messaging.
Educators can deliver these resources independently in their own settings or request supported delivery from staff at NFRS. Please look at all linked resources to ensure you have the relevant information to effectively deliver messaging. Suggested delivery will be detailed in a lesson plan format.
Should you prefer an engagement with children and young people delivered by NFRS staff please;
- Email egagement@notts-fire.gov.uk with details of your request, setting and the age group your work with.
- Create a professional account on StayWise with your professional email address and location address.
- Liaise with NFRS to arrange a suitable time and date for delivery. NFRS staff may suggest topics or sessions to you based on risk, time of year or national campaigns.
- Conduct any necessary risk assessment around the selected activity and have the selected activity loaded up on local IT for when NFRS staff arrive.
Resources on the public pages of StayWise do not require a log in to access, please consider utilising these for family learning opportunities or extension activities for wider dissemination in your community.
