These activities have been selected to support the work of cub, scout, brownie and rainbow groups. They include practical activities and creative tasks which can enhance knowledge and understanding of fire safety, water and beach safety, and support the learning of practical skills needed when working outdoors, such as first aid.

How To Use

Activities such as the wordsearch, origami, reading tasks and posters are to be used in a classroom environment to support learning. The risk assessment task can be used before the young people take trips to high risk areas, in order to help them understand the importance of planning and preparation for safety. The fire triangle practical can be used whilst out on an expedition in order to further develop understanding of fire and how to use it safely. Stop, drop and roll and first aid can form an essential part of preperation lessons for young people before they work in potentially hazardous outdoor areas, and should be taught in an open space such as a hall, where they have plenty of room. These activities together will help young people to feel prepared for working safely in the outdoors and reducing the risk of accidents occurring.
