Mud and Sand Safety

Description

Every year the Fire and Rescue Services and the Coastguard are called out to reports of people and animals getting stuck in mud and sand, both at the beach and further inland. This is a Personal Social Health and Economic (PSHE) lesson which explores the dangers of mud and sand and gives advice on both what to do and what not to do in the event of getting stuck. This is a discussion-based lesson which will give pupils the opportunity to ask questions and offer their opinions.

How To Use

Through delivery of this lesson, pupils will learn the dangers of mud and sand.  Prior to the lesson, it would be beneficial to note places in the local area which pupils are likely to visit that could present mud and sand dangers e.g. a beach or a local river.  This will help to reiterate the fact that it could happen to them, it’s not just something that happens far away from home.
