These activities have been chosen to support our KS3 Fire Safety school talks. After we have visited your school, the activities can be used to enhance student knowledge and understanding of the work of the fire and rescue service and fire safety through creative tasks and more practical activities in a range of lessons.
How To Use
We suggest that the 'Stop Drop and Roll' activity is used in the hall, perhaps in a PE lesson, so that the students have a big open space in which to practice. The narrative story and newspaper article would both be useful tasks for English lessons, to help develop literacy through the theme of fire safety. The fire triangle practical lesson would be an engaging addition to the science curriculum, and help students to understand how fire works and the importance of being fire safe at home. The firework safety lesson would be very useful as a PSHE topic a few weeks before bonfire night, to remind students of the importance of firework safety. All of these materials can be used together to enhance the curriculum in a variety of subjects to provide students with a cross-curricular approach to understanding fire safety.
