Home Fire Safety - Writing a Newspaper Article

English lesson on writing a newspaper article using the five W's - Who, What, Where, When, Why. The students are invited to revise the features of a newspaper article and the purpose of writing one by creating an article about a house fire. Firstly, the students are invited to describe the events of their morning using the five W's. They then discuss the purpose of a newspaper article, thereafter what causes house fires. After viewing a video showing how a bedroom fire can start due to faulty cables, they are then invited to write a newspaper article about a house fire, using a variety of sentence types and lengths to engage the reader.
