English lesson on writing a newspaper article using the five W's - Who, What, Where, When, Why.  The students are invited to revise the features of a newspaper article and the purpose of writing one by creating an article about a house fire.  There is a video embedded in the accompanying presentation, showing a bedroom fire that starts from a faulty cable to highlight the safety issue and to provide the details the students need to write a newspaper article about this event.

How To Use

The students are firstly invited to describe the events of their morning using the five W's. They discuss the purpose of the newspaper article, thereafter what causes house fires. They are then invited to write a newspaper article about a house fire, using a variety of sentence types and lengths to engage the reader.

'Resource 1' below is the presentation that accompanies the lesson.
