These activities have been selected to help young people understand the hazards found in beach environments and be able to make smart and safe choices when visiting the beach.
How To Use
These resources would be helpful for young people before they visit the beach, either as a school trip or a family holiday. They can be delivered by teachers or parents, and used with a variety of age groups to help develop understanding of the risks associated with seaside environments. For primary school aged children we recommend the stories and 'Is this safe?' activities, as these give a gentle introduction to safety issues. For secondary school children we recommend the tombstoning and beach flag activities, as these become more relevent when young people are visiting the beach independently. The 'Get lifeguard fit' activity could also be a fun way of encouraging young people to exercise and stay healthy, and help build up their excitement for a visit to the beach.
