The Icebreaker: Ball Toss activity is a fast‑paced team exercise designed to help young people learn each other’s names while building communication, coordination, and teamwork skills. Working in a circle, cadets pass balls to one another using names and agreed‑upon patterns, gradually increasing the challenge by adding more balls, introducing timing, or attempting multiple throws at once. The activity promotes problem‑solving, planning, and cooperation, making it ideal for the start of a session or when integrating new team members.
How To Use
Stand in a circle with your group and start by sharing your name and something interesting about yourself. Once a ball is introduced, your job is to remember who you throw to, call their name, and pass the ball without dropping it.
After you’ve mastered one ball, more will be added - so you’ll need to stay focused, communicate clearly, and work together to keep everything moving. You can challenge yourselves by speeding up, adding more balls, or trying to beat your best time. Use your “plan, do, review” skills to improve as a team each round.
