Home Fire Safety - Year 2 (Low Tech)

Description

Knowing what to do in the event of a fire alarm sounding is something practised in schools and workplaces but often overlooked in the home.  This lesson focuses on what to do if the smoke alarm sounds at home, or if you see or smell fire or smoke within the home. The lesson is split into three parts with optional ideas for extension activities if there is time.  This lesson plan only includes activities that can be delivered without the use of an IWB, laptop or iPad.  It has also been designed for a visit lasting an hour, allowing time for the students to explore the firefighter’s kit and the fire appliance which are key elements to increase the engagement and overall experience for the children.

How To Use

This plan has been designed for blue light users who are visiting schools that do not have access to the internet, laptops or interactive whiteboards.  The activity ideas included in the plan are flexible and can be adapted to fit the time available for the visit.  The idea is to support firefighters with a bank or resources to use during the visit but still allow time for students to explore the fire appliance and see a real firefighter's kit.
