Home Fire Safety - Year 2

Description

Knowing what to do in the event of a fire alarm sounding is something practised in schools and workplaces but often overlooked in the home.  This lesson focuses on what to do if the smoke alarm sounds at home, or if you see or smell fire or smoke within the home. The lesson is split into four parts.  Time should be allocated within the session to show the children the firefighter kit and PPE and give them a tour of the fire appliance if possible.  Be flexible with the activities in this plan to allow for this important learning experience to be included in the visit.

How To Use

This plan has been designed for blue light users who are visiting schools that have access to technology such as interactive whiteboards, laptops and internet access.  The activity ideas included in the plan are flexible and can be adapted to fit the time available for the visit.  The idea is to support firefighters with a bank or resources to use during the visit but still allow time for students to explore the fire appliance and see a real firefighter's kit.  There is a presentation that contains all the necessary links and the embedded video. This can be found under 'Resource 1' below.

All the other resources featured in the plan can be found by clicking on 'Resource 2 - 5' below.
