The Cost-of-Living Crisis

Description

The cost-of-living crisis is having a severe impact on families with children. In the UK alone, close to 4.3 million children are living in poverty. As the cost-of-living crisis continues and prices keep on going up, it means more children will experience difficult times. Parents and carers may have to make some big changes to make sure they can afford to pay the bills; this may mean that they resort to using unsafe heating or cooking methods in order to keep their families warm and fed. This video aims to address some of the fire safety issues which may arise as a result of this crisis and offers children and young people advice on how they can help to keep themselves and their families safe.

How To Use

This video can be used as a stand-alone resource, you may wish to play it on a screen on a continuous loop where individuals or groups of children can view it and absorb the information throughout the day. The video can also be used as a resource for a specific cost-of-living crisis discussion or in addition to other relevant fire safety lessons. When using this resource, please be mindful of some of the difficulties which some of the children may be experiencing at home during this time, children who might previously have been in a comfortable position at home may now be struggling as a result of the cost-of-living crisis. This is a daunting time for adults, but children may also feel some of that anxiety too, therefore this topic needs to be addressed carefully and with sensitivity.
