Description
This lesson plan is a guide to delivering a session using the 'Alex and the Firefighters - Science' video. Science helps us to understand fire safety; firefighters need to think scientifically and use science in their everyday roles from understanding how fires behave to making sure their equipment is always ready to go. Firefighter Alex explains how their equipment - just like everyday items - needs to be made of the right materials to keep us and them safe. The video challenges children to use scientific reasoning to think about everyday items and their properties, investigate what they are made of and consider the reasons why. The video also introduces the importance of smoke alarms, night-time routines and home fire escape plans - knowing what to do in the event of a fire is essential and could save a life.
