The 'Close Before You Doze' video features a catchy, animated song to help teach children about the importance of closing bedroom doors at night.  The song explains how the simple act of closing the doors can slow the speed of the fire and buy valuable time if there is a fire in your home.  The song makes reference to the importance of having an escape plan and 'if you can get out then you have to get out', it also explains that if exits are blocked by fire, then you should all gather in a room, shut the door and call 999.  These simple messages conveyed through a catchy song will undoubtedly be embedded into the mind of the learner which could help to keep them safe if there was a fire within their own home.

How To Use

Use this video to grab the children's attention and teach them a catchy fire safety song, as an extension of Health and Wellbeing fire safety work. This video would provide an excellent addition to various fire safety focused lessons, for younger children, it could support lessons based on the 'Know Your Way Out' story and for older children it could be included in the 'Fire Action Plan' lesson or as an additional resource for the 'Home Fire Safety - Bedroom Fire' lesson.  All of these resources can be found linked below as related resources.

Spot the mistake - Within this video, there is an obvious mistake, the smoke alarm is on the wall and not on the ceiling - challenge the children to spot the mistake and provide an appropriate answer as to where smoke alarms should be located within the home.  Further information on smoke alarms can be found in 'The Importance of Smoke Alarms' resource, this can also be found linked below as a related resource.

It is also really important to re-iterate the need to call 999 whether you can escape your home or not.
