The Gutter Ball Teambuilding Challenge is a fast‑paced problem‑solving activity that requires cadets to work closely together to transport a golf ball across a set distance using only sheets of A4 paper. By creating a continuous “gutter” and carefully coordinating their movements, cadets strengthen their communication, teamwork, and planning skills. The activity is simple to set up, highly engaging, and encourages groups to reflect on how effective teamwork leads to success.
How To Use
Work in your team to move a golf ball from the start line to the finish line using only your sheet of paper. Remember: when the ball is on your piece of paper, you must keep your feet still - so you’ll need to think ahead and communicate clearly with your teammates.
Fold your paper into a U‑shape to help create a smooth “gutter” for the ball, and position it right next to your teammates’ paper to keep the ball moving. If the ball touches the floor, your team starts again - so stay focused, talk to each other, and react quickly. The first team to get their ball all the way to the end without dropping it wins.
After the challenge, reflect with the other team on what went well and what could make your teamwork even stronger next time.
