Extract from Samuel Pepys's Diary

This extract shows Samuel Pepys's feelings and observations of the fire as he travelled up the River Thames and looked at the fire raging through the city.  

Use this extract to inspire the children and get them to imagine being in London during the great fire.  Encourage them to write their own diary of what they saw and how they felt.
