Summer Water Safety is an interactive safety education lesson that helps Key Stage 2 pupils understand the risks associated with open water and how to stay safe during the summer months. Through discussion, videos and scenario-based activities, pupils learn about water hazards, emergency responses and the RNLI's Float to Live message. This lesson has been mapped to the Northern Ireland Curriculum, supporting learning within PDMU (Personal Development and Mutual Understanding) and Language and Literacy by developing pupils' understanding of personal safety, decision-making and communication skills.
How To Use
Use the presentation to explore the dangers of open water, including cold water shock, hidden hazards and strong currents. Encourage pupils to discuss risks, identify unsafe behaviours and consider how they can stay safe around water.
Introduce and reinforce the Float to Live message, discuss what to do in a water emergency and use the interactive questions and activities to check understanding. Finish by encouraging pupils to share key water safety messages with family and friends.
