Kick off conversations that save lives with StayWise’s World Cup fire safety resources
With excitement for the 2026 Football World Cup already in full swing, StayWise is encouraging educators, community groups and families to make the most of a new range of free, football-themed fire safety resources.
Designed to capture the energy of the tournament, these engaging posters and activities help children and young people learn vital safety messages in a way that feels relevant, fun and memorable. From preventing overloaded sockets to testing smoke alarms, the materials use the universal appeal of football to bring important lessons into everyday conversations.
StayWise is a national education platform led by the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), bringing together resources from emergency services and safety organisations to help children and young people stay safe at home, in school and in their communities.
Turning football fever into fire safety awareness
Perfect for use alongside the StayWise related lesson plan bundles in classrooms, community groups and home education settings, these engaging resources make it easy to bring key safety messages to life.
The World Cup resources are designed to work across a range of settings, making it simple to link safety advice to moments that matter, whether that’s preparing for a match day gathering, setting up screens and devices, or sparking conversations at home.
Electrical safety is a key focus, with overloaded sockets identified as a common and preventable cause of fires in the home. Simple actions like avoiding plugging too many devices into one socket can reduce overheating and help prevent fire risks.
Simple messages that make a lasting impact
The football-themed approach is designed to make safety messages stick. By connecting learning to a major cultural moment, StayWise helps educators and families start meaningful discussions with children and young people about everyday risks and how to manage them.
Sarah Mason, Head of Prevention at NFCC, said: "We know that everyone is looking forward to some great football over the next few weeks, and our greatest home defender is a working smoke alarm. We hope these fun resources will start conversations about fire safety in the home, from testing smoke alarms and not overloading sockets, to keeping exits clear and other key safety messages. We want homes everywhere to show fire the red card!"
Get involved and help spread the message
StayWise, which is also the official educational arm of the government’s Fire Kills campaign, is encouraging community leaders/volunteers, educators and families to download and share the resources widely throughout the tournament to maximise their reach and impact.
