Yes, I Can Play; No, Stay Away! is an interactive fire safety activity for Early Years and Key Stage 1/2 children. How To Use
- Print and prepare the "Yes I Can Play" and "No Stay Away" sorting sheets and picture cards.
- Introduce the concepts of safe and dangerous, and explain that children will become Safety Detectives.
- Spread the picture cards out on a table or floor.
- Ask children to look at each card and discuss:
- What is the item?
- Is it safe to play with?
- Why or why not?
- Children sort each card into either "Yes I Can Play" or "No Stay Away."
- Encourage children to explain their choices and reinforce key safety messages about hazards, fire risks, and seeking adult help when they find something unsafe.
Finish with a quick review by asking children to name something that is safe to play with and something they should stay away from.
