Deliberate Fire Setting: Consequences for Everyone is a targeted one-to-one intervention session for Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils. Through discussion, scenario-based learning and reflective activities, young people explore the wider consequences of deliberate fire setting on themselves, their families, the community and emergency services. The session encourages critical thinking, personal responsibility, empathy and positive decision-making by helping learners understand the ripple effect of their actions.

How To Use

  • Introduce the scenario and encourage the young person to consider what might happen after a deliberate fire is started.
  • Use the discussion prompts and consequence categories (Community, Fire Service, Family and Legal/Personal Consequences) to explore the impact of the incident.
  • Support the young person in identifying and discussing the consequences using the provided cards and questions.
  • Encourage reflection on personal choices, peer influence and safer alternatives to risky behaviour.
  • Use the extension activities, including the Ripple Effect Activity and Reflection Worksheet, to deepen learning and reinforce key messages.

The consequence cards needed for this session can be found below.
