Pyrolysis is when heat converts solids into fuel gases. What does this look like? With the infrared camera, observe the lampshade on the left side of the room as it heats up and pyrolizes.

How To Use

This video is a useful addition to the 'UL Xplorlabs Fire Forensics' session focusing on heat transfer.  It shows clearly how the fire in the room spreads and the transfer of energy that is occurring.  The lesson looks in more detail at the processes of heat transfer through conduction, convection and radiation and includes practical work to explore how different materials burn.
