This Water Safety Assembly is designed for KS3 students and aims to raise awareness of the dangers of open water. It teaches students how to stay safe, recognise risks, and respond appropriately in an emergency. Key topics include cold water shock, hidden hazards, the “Float to Live” technique, and how to help others safely without entering the water.
How To Use
- Deliver as a whole-school or year group assembly led by staff or visiting Fire & Rescue personnel.
- Talk through each slide, encouraging students to think about real-life situations they may encounter near water.
- Use the video and images to spark discussion about risks and safe behaviours.
- Reinforce key safety messages:
- Avoid entering open water
- Always call for help in an emergency
- Remember and practise “Float to Live”
- Include opportunities to ask questions and check understanding at the end.
- Optionally, follow up with classroom discussion or safety activities to embed learning.
