This session is designed for Reception/Early Years children by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The content is simple, clear and visual. There is a video all about firefighters’ lives and the job that they do to help us. The presentation goes through the different roles of firefighters and how they help our communities, then there are important messages about lighters and matches before the children can take part in a game to identify hot and cold items. The children are also encouraged to think about what they would do at home if they ever heard the smoke alarm going off.
How To Use
Use this session to cover important objectives from the PSHE curriculum of learning; introducing children to the role of firefighters and how they help their communities. There is a lesson plan that includes more detailed guidance on delivering the session and there are also notes with the presentation slides to help.
The lesson plan can be found by scrolling a little further down the page.
