Water Safety KS3

Description

This lesson looks at ways of staying safe around water, utilising RNLI and NFCC key safety messages. It highlights the dangers and consequences of entering/swimming in open water, whilst providing time for a facilitated conversation with the audience around key topics. It involves the audience by giving them the opportunity to engage and explore the subject of water safety.  

The key objectives covered are:  

  • How to stay safe around water and ice.
  • The dangers of open water.
  • Safety at the beach.
  • What to do if you get into trouble in the water.
  • What to do if someone else is in trouble in the water.
  • What throwlines are and how to use them.
  • How to do CPR.
  • Top tips for flood safety.

How To Use

Use this lesson to share important water safety information effectively.  This plan includes all the details about the key learning objectives and suggested questions to ask participants throughout the session to encourage discussion and engagement from the audience.  The session meets key objectives in the KS3 PSHE curriculum within the theme of managing risk and personal safety.  The presentation for this session contains all the appropriate safety information and has embedded videos to emphasise the key messages and demonstrate important life-saving techniques.
