Working Together – Emergency Services in the Community is a learning resource designed to help senior phase students understand how the Fire and Rescue Service works in partnership with other emergency and support organisations. The lesson explores multi‑agency working during incidents such as fires, road traffic collisions, flooding, search and rescue, and major emergencies. Learners develop an understanding of the roles different services play and why cooperation, communication, and coordination are essential to keeping communities safe.

How To Use

  • Use the accompanying presentation to introduce the concept of multi‑agency working and why emergency services collaborate.
  • Guide learners through examples of incidents where multiple organisations are involved, highlighting the role of each service.
  • Use discussion and group activities to help students identify which emergency services may be required in different scenarios.
  • Encourage learners to reflect on how teamwork improves outcomes for casualties, responders, and the wider community.
  • Check understanding through questioning, recap activities, or workbook tasks at the end of the session.
