Description
This pedestrian road safety session, created by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, is aimed at KS1 children aged between 5 and 7. The focus is on how they can be a sensible pedestrian and the behaviour choices that they need to make to help keep themselves safe near roads. There are engaging images, tasks and a video contained in the accompanying presentation to encourage focus and participation from the children. It has 10 slides and takes approximately 15-20 minutes depending on the participation of the children.
How To Use
This lesson links to the PSHE curriculum under the theme of 'Keeping Safe'. Use this session to deliver key safety messages to younger primary school children in a classroom setting. Encourage participation from the children by asking questions and valuing their answers. There is an activity in the session that asks the children to spot the good and bad behaviour near a road. You could split the children into groups and create a bit of competition at this point. The video at the end delivers a clear message in a fun and memorable way.
