Knife crimes involving young people hit the headlines with shocking frequency. This lesson aims to teach teenagers and young adults why people might be tempted to carry knives and explore what can be done to discourage them. The lesson will also look at the consequences to individuals and communities of knife crime and encourage the children to consider how different members of society could have an impact on reducing knife crime.

The video embedded within the presentation for this lesson contains images of injury and death that some may find distressing.

How To Use

This PSHE based lesson provides an excellent discussion focus to enhance students abilities to take part in meaningful debates. Use the plan alongside the teaching presentation to take the class through a series of activities to familiarise them with the issue of knife crime, culminating in a balloon debate on the topic.

Staff should watch the video in the lesson presentation and make a judgement call on suitability for their group in advance of delivery.
