Knife Crime KS3 - Young People and Knives

Description

Knife crimes involving young people hit the headlines with shocking frequency. This lesson is designed to encourage students to think about the potential consequences of carrying a knife. It looks at some of the reasons that young people might feel they need to carry a knife and asks them to think of alternative options for Bib; a youngster who finds himself in a difficult situation.

The video embedded within the presentation for this lesson contains images of injury and death that some may find distressing.

How To Use

This lesson is a valuable addition to the PSHE curriculum. It addresses the issue of knife crime and will engage young people in thoughtful discussions about the topic. There is also a video to illustrate a scenario in which a young person becomes involved in a violent crime. The video should spark discussion and feedback that will support the main task of the lesson, which is to think of alternative actions that a young person could take to avoid getting involved in a violent incident involving a knife.

Staff should watch video in the lesson presentation and make a judgement call on suitability for their group in advance of delivery.
