Description
When studying a unit on The Great Fire of London, it is important to explain to pupils that there was no emergency service available at the time. The people had to try and fight the fire themselves, but they needed to spread the word first so as many people as possible could come and help. These activities show the children how basic the communication systems were at the time and then lead on to practising how to call for help today.
How To Use
Use these activities as part of a unit of work on The Great Fire of London to highlight the differences in the way they could call for help in 1666 and take the opportunity to go through the important process of calling 999 in the present day.
