This KS3 lesson plan supports students in developing the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe from fire in the home. Through a range of interactive activities, discussions and quizzes, students explore the main causes of house fires, the importance of smoke alarms, bedtime routines and escape planning, as well as how to respond safely in an emergency, provide basic burn care and understand the dangers of deliberate fire-setting and hoax calls.
How To Use
Use this lesson plan alongside the associated Fire Safety in the Home – Key Stage 3 presentation to deliver a 60-minute session. Follow the facilitator notes for each slide to guide activities, discussions and knowledge checks that reinforce key fire safety messages. The lesson can be delivered by teachers or fire and rescue service personnel and can be adapted to suit whole-class teaching, assemblies or smaller group sessions.
