This lesson teaches cadets how to stay safe if a fire breaks out in the home at night. It covers the importance of a safe bedtime routine, what to do if a smoke alarm sounds while asleep, and how to choose the correct escape plan depending on the situation. Cadets learn three key escape plans - getting out safely, staying put when trapped, and the last‑resort window escape - along with essential safety actions such as keeping low, checking doors for heat, and never going back inside for people, pets, or belongings.
How To Use
In this session you’ll learn what to do if your smoke alarm goes off while you’re asleep. Your instructor will show you how to stay calm, check the door safely using the back of your hand, keep low to avoid smoke, and wake everyone in your home so you can stay together.
You’ll look at three escape plans and learn when to use each one - getting out if it’s safe, staying in a room and blocking smoke if you’re trapped, or using a window escape only as a last resort. Pay attention to where your house keys are kept and how you'd call 999. These steps will help you stay safe in a real fire.
