Welcome to Shropshire's Fire and Rescue Service water safety bundle page.  The attached bundles contain water safety activities covering key messages for children, young people and adults.  Activity ages are a guide and may be suitable for young children with additional adult support or for older age groups and adults as the safety messages are important for all to know.  The bundle is designed to meet water safety message needs and activities for educators and fire crews to access via the Blue Light and Teacher log ins, but also can be for parents and carers to use with their children.  There are posters to display to reinforce key messages.  For educators there is the subject focus eg English, PHSE, and curriculum focus eg Keeping safe, people who help us, speaking and listening, plus age range.

How To Use

Cover key water safety messages:-

Display Water Safety Code poster to reinforce learning around stop and think, stay together, call 999, float.

CALL 999- ask for the fire and rescue service when inland and the coastguard at the coast

TELL them to float on their back

THROW something that floats

Discuss safety equipment that may be nearby - life ring, throw line or even a football.  Discuss importance of maintaining own safety and don't enter the water to rescue.

There are many resources within the attached bundles which can help to teach, support and consolidate learning around water safety resources, please refer to the accompanying lesson plans or the description and how to use of each resource for guidance on how to use them effectively with the children and young people you are working with.
