National Children’s Day: helping children stay safe through trusted StayWise education resources
On National Children’s Day (Sunday 10 May), families, educators and emergency services across the UK are being encouraged to support children’s safety and wellbeing by making use of StayWise, the free online safety education platform.
StayWise brings together trusted, curriculum linked resources from UK emergency services and safety‑focused organisations, helping children and young people learn how to stay safe at home, in school and in their communities. The platform includes lesson plans, videos, activities and worksheets covering a wide range of safety topics, and is designed to support teachers, youth workers, parents and carers alike.
National Children’s Day UK is an annual celebration highlighting the importance of children’s rights, happiness and wellbeing, and the role communities play in helping children grow up safe, confident and prepared for life.
With children making up one fifth of the UK population, National Children’s Day also draws attention to the findings of the Children’s Media Literacy Report 2025, which highlights the growing importance of helping children understand information, manage risk and make safe choices in an increasingly complex digital and real-world environment. Trusted, age‑appropriate educational resources available on StayWise play an important role in building these essential skills from an early age.
Sarah Mason, Head of Prevention for the National Fire Chiefs Council said: “Evidence from Children’s Media Literacy research shows why we must start early with clear, trusted education. StayWise helps children build confidence, understanding and practical safety skills, supporting both learning and wellbeing as they grow.
“The website content turns vital safety messages into engaging learning for children and young people. On National Children’s Day, we’re encouraging everyone who supports children to make use of these free, trusted resources.”
StayWise has been developed to make safety education engaging, consistent, easy to access. Resources can be filtered by age group, subject or safety theme, making it straightforward to integrate key safety messages into everyday learning and conversations with children and young people.
Free resources are available to everyone via the public area of the site, with additional tailored content for educators and emergency service professionals.
