How To Use
Use this toolkit alongside the presentation and practitioner guide to support direct work with non-verbal young people. Select the resources that best match the young person's communication needs, using visual prompts to explore feelings, understand fire-setting behaviour, discuss safety, check understanding, and identify alternative actions. Practitioners should introduce one tool at a time, allow sufficient processing time, and accept a range of non-verbal responses such as eye gaze, pointing, gestures, or the use of communication aids. The toolkit is intended to make fire-safety interventions more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for young people who do not communicate through speech.
