This 1-1 activity is designed for delivery to Key Stage 3/4 children and young people (CYP). The session encourages CYP to make independent and sensible choices. This exercise highlights to young people in a very visual way that playing with fire is about taking chances that they cannot control. Many young people think they are in control of fire. This exercise challenges, in a non-confrontational way, this false sense of control. A young person may be in control of setting a fire, but not what happens next.
How To Use
Use this with individual children that have been identified as displaying increased curiosity about fire or have already been involved in potentially dangerous fire-setting activities. Use the session plan to support you in developing a conservation with the CYP and there are lots of ideas of questions you could use to try to embed the messages about the dangers and consequences of deliberate fire setting.
