The aim of this session is to enable learners to gain knowledge of the history of the fire and rescue service and to find out how their work has changed over time.
The key objectives covered are to:
- Know the history of the fire and rescue service nationally and locally.
- Understand how the functions of the fire and rescue service have changed over time.
- Know how fire and rescue service equipment has changed over time.
How To Use
This session plan provides the details needed to successfully deliver this session to the Fire Cadets. Check the resources list on the plan to ensure that you have everything that is needed for the session. If possible, ask a colleague (Firefighter or Control Operator) with long service or a retired colleague to attend and give their personal experience of change. A visit to a fire museum and/or a control room would also greatly enhance this unit.
The presentation for this session can be found in the FCA 2 - Instructor Bundle or can be found by clicking on 'Resource 1' under 'Supporting Items'.
