The aim of this session is to provide Fire Cadets with an understanding of fire and rescue service knots and lines.
The key objectives covered are for Fire Cadets to be able to:
- Identify the types of lines used by the Fire and Rescue Service and their application.
- Describe and label the different parts of a line.
- Explain the characteristics of a good knot.
- Be able to tie and explain the purpose of the round turn and two half hitches, the clove hitch and the bowline.
How To Use
This is the fifth session in Module 4 - Operational Drills. Fire Cadets must have undertaken manual handling and basic health and safety training. Appropriate PPE should be issued and in good condition. Operational equipment should be tested and approved before use and cadet records should be reviewed for known medical conditions and physical limitations.
