The aim of this session is to provide Fire Cadets with the knowledge and skills to undertake basic breathing apparatus (BA) procedures.

The key objectives covered are for Fire Cadets to be able to:

  • Understand the situations when breathing apparatus is used and the benefits of positive pressure.
  • Identify the parts of a breathing apparatus set and associated equipment.
  • Demonstrate safe search techniques.
  • Demonstrate how a team search a room for a casualty.

How To Use

This is the fourth session in Module 4 - Operational Drills. Fire Cadets must have undertaken manual handling and basic health and safety training.  Appropriate PPE should be issued and in good condition. Operational equipment should be tested and approved before use and cadet records should be reviewed for known medical conditions and physical limitations.
