The aim of this session is to provide Fire Cadets with the knowledge and skills to operate a light portable pump from open water effectively.

The key objectives are for Fire Cadets to be able to:

  • Name the different sources of water that are available for firefighting purposes.
  • Explain the different methods of communication when operating a pump and the standard commands.
  • Get an LPP to work from open water.
  • Demonstrate the correct hand signals when operating a pump.

How To Use

This is the third session in Module 4 - Operational Drills. Fire Cadets must have undertaken manual handling and basic health and safety training.  Appropriate PPE should be issued and in good condition. Operational equipment should be tested and approved before use and cadet records should be reviewed for known medical conditions and physical limitations.
