The aim of this session is to give Fire Cadets the knowledge and skills to use ladders effectively.
The key objectives covered are for fire cadets will be able to:
- Identify the different types of ladders carried on a fire appliance.
- Use the correct terminology to name all parts of a ladder.
- Demonstrate correct handling and carrying of the 5.5 metre ladder.
- Correctly pitch a ladder to the first floor of a drill tower and make up using correct commands as number one in the crew.
- Safely ascend and dismount a ladder from the first floor of the drill tower and then mount and descend the same ladder.
How To Use
This is the second session in Module 4 - Operational Drills. Fire Cadets must have undertaken manual handling and basic health and safety training. Appropriate PPE should be issued and in good condition. Operational equipment should be tested and approved before use and cadet records should be reviewed for known medical conditions and physical limitations.
